GSTN will Launch 2nd E-Way Bill Portal on 01.07.2025- Both the Portal will work Simultaneously
In a major step toward bolstering business continuity and operational efficiency, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has announced the rollout of a new and improved E-Way Bill 2.0 portal (https://ewaybill2.gst.gov.in), developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). This initiative, set to go live from 1st July 2025, introduces enhanced inter-operability between the current E-Way Bill 1.0 portal (https://ewaybillgst.gov.in) and the new platform.
Objective of E-Way Bill 2.0
The E-Way Bill 2.0 portal has been developed in response to feedback from taxpayers and transporters seeking uninterrupted service availability during technical downtimes. By facilitating cross-portal operability, the new system ensures that essential e-way bill functions can continue seamlessly, regardless of which portal is used.
New Inter-Operable Functionalities
Taxpayers and transporters can now perform the following activities on the E-Way Bill 2.0 portal — even for E-Way Bills originally generated on the E-Way Bill 1.0 portal:
- Generation of E-Way Bill based on Part-A details entered by the supplier
- Generation of Consolidated E-Way Bills
- Extension of Validity for existing E-Way Bills
- Update of Transporter Details
- Retrieval and Printing of Consolidated E-Way Bills
These services are in addition to existing functionalities, such as:
- Generation of new E-Way Bills
- Vehicle detail updates
- E-Way Bill slip printing
System Synchronisation and Real-Time Integration
To ensure consistency and real-time access:
- Both portals will operate in a real-time synchronised environment, with data mirrored across systems within seconds.
- In case of technical issues or downtime on one portal (e.g., E-Way Bill 1.0), all necessary operations — including Part-B updates — can be performed on the alternate portal (E-Way Bill 2.0).
- This dual-system architecture is a strategic move to reduce system dependency and ensure uninterrupted workflow.
API-Based Access for Enhanced Integration
Recognising the needs of high-volume users and logistics service providers:
- All functionalities will also be available through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
- APIs are already hosted in the sandbox environment for testing, allowing ERP and logistics platforms to integrate seamlessly.
Key Benefits to Stakeholders
The E-Way Bill 2.0 portal delivers several tangible advantages:
- Reduced downtime risks with the ability to switch portals instantly
- Cross-portal operability, enabling updates and actions regardless of the originating platform
- Better transporter flexibility, especially in updating Part-B or generating consolidated slips on the go
- Faster and real-time data syncing between portals
- Improved system resilience, particularly during peak filing seasons or system outages
