Aadhaar Biometric Verification for GST Registration Applicants in Sikkim
Aadhaar Biometric Verification for GST Registration Applicants in Sikkim
For All New GST Registration Applicants in Sikkim
If you are applying for a new GST registration in the state of Sikkim, please take note of the new process introduced from 1st May 2025. The government has made changes to ensure better verification through biometric Aadhaar authentication and document checks. Here’s everything you need to know in simple language:
What’s New?
As per Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017 (updated recently), some GST applicants will now need to visit a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) for:
- Biometric-based Aadhaar authentication (like a fingerprint or face scan),
- Taking your photograph, and
- Verifying original documents submitted during the online application.
This process will apply only to some applicants, depending on the system’s checks and risk analysis.
How Does the New Process Work?
- After you apply online for GST registration (using Form GST REG-01), you will get an email from the GST system.
- This email will have one of two types of links:
- Option 1: A link for OTP-based Aadhaar authentication (you can complete it online as usual).
- Option 2: A link to book an appointment at a GSK (in-person biometric verification required).
- If you get the OTP link, you can continue with the online process — nothing has changed for you.
- If you get the appointment link, you must:
- Click the link to book a date and time to visit your assigned GST Suvidha Kendra.
- Once booked, you’ll get a confirmation email.
From When Is This Appointment Booking Available?
Starting 1st May 2025, applicants in Sikkim can book appointments and visit the designated GSKs.
What Should You Carry to the GSK?
When you go to the GST Suvidha Kendra, carry the following:
- A copy of your appointment confirmation email (printed or on your phone)
- The jurisdiction details (mentioned in the intimation email)
- Your original Aadhaar Card and PAN Card
- Original documents that you uploaded during GST registration
This visit is mandatory for all individuals mentioned in your application form.
Important Note:
- You must complete the biometric and document verification within the time limit mentioned in the email.
- Your Application Reference Number (ARN) will be issued only after successful in-person verification.
GSK Working Hours in Sikkim:
The working hours and days of GST Suvidha Kendras will be based on local state guidelines. Please check before visiting.
Final Tip:
Keep an eye on your email after submitting the GST application. It will tell you exactly what steps to take next — whether to proceed online or visit a GSK.
If you have any confusion, contact your nearest GST Suvidha Kendra or consult a tax professional.
